Approximately US$ 23,886/year (depending on individual circumstances).

Preferred qualifications

Candidates with an automated, robotic, mechanical, computer science, mathematics background from the leading international university ranking are more favoured.

  • Tuition fees: 2025-26 school year, approximately 25,732/year (Note: Tuition fees increase slightly per year).

Career Prospects

The Ph.D. in Industry and Systems Engineering at the Madison branch of Wisconsin is well known for its deep research power in areas such as optimization, data analysis, humans in engineering and system modelling. Graduates are popular in the global wave of digital transformation and intellectual upgrading.

With their core capacity to address complex systemic issues, they have broad career prospects in academia and in a wide range of frontier industries, including high-tech, financial and medical. Pay coverage is generally higher depending on the field of specialization and industry.

In terms of career choices, doctoral graduates mainly go to the following areas:

  • Academia and scientific institutions: Graduates have access to top universities around the world for teaching positions, leading research teams, and cutting-edge exploration in the areas of preparatory, human-caused, data analysis, etc. They may also join government or enterprise research centres for basic and strategic research.

  • Technology and manufacturing: This is one of the main destinations for doctoral graduates. Optimizing supply chains, platform algorithms and user experiences in technology companies (e.g. Google, Amazon, Microsoft); leading the construction of smart manufacturing, production system optimization and quality management systems in manufacturing firms (e.g. Tesla, Intel)

  • Finance and consultancy: With excellent data analysis and modelling skills, graduates serve as quantitative analysts in hedge funds, investment banks and financial technology companies, developing trade strategies and managing risks.

In top-level consulting firms (e.g. McKinsey, BCG), they serve as strategic advisers to provide solutions for business efficiency improvements

  • Medical and health services: this area is becoming a popular choice for Dr. ISE. Through process optimization, data modelling and people-to-people engineering, they help hospitals to operate more efficiently, optimize the allocation of health-care resources, and improve patient safety and medical-care experience.
