Career Prospects

The Ph.D. in Computers and Information Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) is geared towards the development of high-level talent in front-line areas such as artificial intelligence, communication networks, data science, and intelligent systems. Graduate career development has shown a trend towards diversification, high start and internationalization.

With regard to salaries, the average annual salary of a full-time direct-employment graduate of 2025 is 178,200, while the doctorate, as a scarce and high-level talent, has a significantly higher pay level than the average, and has deepened the introduction and livelihood subsidy policy for all categories of talent in Shenzhen and the Bay region, with a strong overall remuneration competitiveness. In terms of career choices, doctoral graduates mainly go to the following areas:

  • Academia and scientific research institutes: Some of the doctoral graduates have been admitted to positions of teaching or postdoctoral studies at prominent higher education institutions in the country and abroad, and a large number of graduates have been admitted to key higher education institutions in the country and to national research institutes for teaching and forward research.

  • Industry and science and technology enterprises: Most Ph.D. graduates choose to enter industry-led science and technology enterprises and to hold core technical positions such as research and development engineers and algorithms engineers, with jobs covering areas such as the Internet, artificial intelligence, communications, and intelligent manufacturing, with work centres concentrated in the northern, deep-seated cities. - International Further Education and Entrepreneurship: A small number of graduates continue their studies in leading universities or research institutions abroad, and in part rely on the Gulf region ’ s innovative entrepreneurial ecology, choosing to grow their own technology or join start-ups.
